Fig Crostini

I made these little suckers for my Wine Tasting Party (see previous post) They were a huge hit! Also, super easy. Here is what you need:
1 jar of Mascarpone Cheese (I got mine at Trader Joes)
1 tub of dried figs (Trader Joes)
2 Medium Baguettes
3 tbsp Honey
1/4 c crushed walnuts/pecans/almonds - whichever (optional)
A bit of mint (optional)

First you want to cut the french baguette into skinny slices - thicker than a cracker, but you want to consumer to be able to, well....consume.

Then put the oven on High Broil - but don't go anywhere! I let the dog out for a squirt and my house nearly burnt down. Keep an eye - and remove once the bread slices are nice and golden crisp, like a crouton.

After that, simply take the mascarpone cheese and spread a thin layer on all the crostinis.

Next (and this could be done while your waiting for the bread to crust up) cut the figs into thin slices (see above)

Your hands will get awful sticky at this step.

Here comes the fun part - I put about 2-3 fig slices on each crostini, drizzled all with honey (be careful, you want just a hint) and then sprinkle crushed up walnuts and mint leaves - not every single crostini is going to get the mint or walnuts.

There you have it!

Delicious! This is my go-to for any special occasion! So yummy and very different from most appetizers you see at parties.

ENJOY!

Any questions or comments - please email me or comment below! I'd love to hear your thoughts!

Chic Politics

I had a political event to go to this past week and this is what I wore:

Jacket is from Target - but its from fall 2013 so I doubt it is still in stores (maybe sale rack?) Jeans are from American Eagle - I haven't been able to wrap my head around spending $80-$100 on jeans yet - so I'm sticking with AEO because they fit me best! These are the 'artist crop'.

Sorry for the lightening - it was a little off.

...and then there's the shoes - Got them on Just Fab for $20 - they are fabulous - so comfy!!

DRESS HAUL: TOBI REVIEW

Unfortunately I was SO disappointed with my order from Tobi.com - there is nothing like waiting for your dresses - only to have to return 3 of 4 of them! In Tobi's defense, they are junior sizing, but I took that into account when ordering. Anway - it was a disaster - and I will tell you why:

This green dress is the only one I kept - and that is because I Macgyver'd the thing! It was a tent on me (I got a medium because the last dress I got from Tobi was my usual size, a small, and it was too tight around my hips) so Medium ended up being giant... I can't win. I took a safety pin and pinned the back and it was worth keeping...probably wouldn't have been if it wasn't my favorite color.
KEEP.

Oh geez- got this in Medium and it made me look like a box. I showed my fiance and asked 'why do I look like a box' and he agreed that it wasn't a flattering cut. boo.
RETURN.

Got this in Medium and it was a Moo-Moo ....HORRIBLE! Worst one yet! I don't understand all the sizing... I must be a sma-edium =(
RETURN.

Saved the best for last - I got this is a small since it was a wrap and guess what? It totally shows my hoo-haw!!!!! not only does my underwear pop out but its so low cut - it just looks pornographic. RETURN.

Now this could totally be my body - but I am a small in Forever 21 easily! No Problem! So I don't understand what the deal is with Tobi...I am not a small or a medium. Oh well - Guess I just have to let go of this online shop and find something new.

It's Back: Plunging Neckline

It's back, the plunging neckline - you may have seen it (over and over again) in American Hustle on Amy Adams - and she pulled it off very well!

Popular in the 1970s - plunging necklines haven't been riding this low in years! Now its back - in a big way! Here are some ideas on how to pull it off - while keeping it classy.

Amy Adams in American Hustle (Kudos to anyone who can pull off a tight, plunging leather dress)

This is my pick - I bought this dress recently (still waiting to arrive! - see 'dress haul' post) It's safe, not too low, and in a sweet cream color which gives it (sort-of) an innocent look.

Gywneth Paltrow in a black jumpsuit. Jumpsuits are also a trend thats back this year.

The trend is all over the runway!

Tip: This is a look (I prefer) to see on small chested women - the larger the bust, the 'looser' the look.

Great look here (even the pants are amazing) If anyone knows where I can get these pieces ^ let me know!
Ah-Mah-Zing.

Another runway look! Love this one - so pretty and girly!

Nicole Richie is rockin' it in this white gown at the Elton John AIDS Event.

Tip: I feel, you must wear this trend with more coverage on the bottom - however, like the model above, if you are at the beach, pool, or any sort of vacation spot - you probably can get away with it.

This top is from Victoria's Secret (of course) - very seductive!

And here is what NOT TO DO:

Ahhhhh - My eyes! Too much! Way too much! That should be only worn in the bedroom! Yikes!!

My Best Friend's Wedding

Today I am going to feature my best friends wedding! She got married last summer and it was absolutely stunning!

The venue was Nova 535 in St. Petersburg, FL. It was a cool venue, with brick walls and lots of interesting lighting - gave the wedding sort of a night club feel.

Here is the lovely bride getting her vail fluffed - she's never looked more beautiful!

Jenn thought of everything - so many neat touches all around the venue.

And who could leave out a shot of the gorgeous ring?

They even had a signature cocktail, The Montini! It was delicious - I would know, I had MANY.

I couldn't get over the flowers- perfection!

I loved her dress - here is her new sister-in-law lacing up her back.

Her shoes were actually Disney Collection Cinderella shoes - and yes, they killed.

She got this shot for her mom - framed it and gave it to her as a gift after the wedding - like I said, she thought of e.v.e.r.y.t.h.i.n.g.

Shot from the 'first look'

...Here are the bridesmaids! Lauren and I were co-maid of honors (Lauren being the center blonde, and me to the right of her.)

Their ring box!

Jenn, clearly as happy as can be after being announced as Mr. & Mrs. Montgomery!

No one could stop us from doing the Bridesmaids pose from the movie poster, no one.

Instead of cake, they did one small cake to cut and cupcakes for all!

The notorious speech - Yes, we serenaded her.

Their first dance as a married couple

...and the guy that stole the show! Jenn's nephew, little Bobby, breakdancing - all night long.

Sparkler Send-off for the Newlyweds!

It was a beautiful wedding - and so so so much fun!
